Camera Obscura
I use a can camera for outdoor photography, but for still-life photography I use a second-hand large format camera (8x10 inches) with modifications. Cameras that have been simplified as much as possible to reduce weight do not have viewfinders. Therefore, I develop the film immediately after shooting, check the composition, and then move on to the next shoot. Most people think of color when they think of still life, but I am drawn to the deep blacks of copper engravings, so I choose black and white for still life as well as landscapes. I print by contact to photographic paper large negatives myself because I want to express the moist texture and sturdy presence of copper engravings.
